
This photograph is of one of the four buses involved in the Penn State Bus accident on November 21, 1999 on Interstate 80. The driver of this bus was trapped for aproximately 60 minutes before being extricated. The driver survived this ordeal after spending approx. 30 days in the hospital, with many more months of rehabilitation expected.

This photograph is of some of the involved charter buses and one of the three involved passenger vehicles. Upon arrival the bus in which the car impacted was still running and black smoke was emanating from the wreckage. This bus engine had to be shut down by firefighters during the operation. The driver of this bus died at the scene.

This photograph depicts the massive operation that was undertaken. There were over 200 passengers involved in this accident. 107 injured people were transported to various hospitals, while 2 persons lost thier lives, the bus driver and a passenger.

The crash occurred just before midnite, on the night of November 20, 1999 the rescue efforts lasted well into the morning of November 21st. The incident took place on a fog covered Interstate 80 WB @ Exit #41 in Kidder Township, Carbon County, Pennsylvania. The entire incident involved 22 EMS agencies, 5 Fire Departments, 10 Hospitals, Carbon County & Luzerne County 911 Centers, Pennsylvania State Police, Area Municipal Police Agencies, Carbon County Emergency Management Agency, Carbon County Coroners Office, and 3 emergency shelters established in the Boro of White Haven.
